Excellent FAQ, answers a whole lot of my first doubts.

Gosh, this seems so complex. On the one hand, kudos for maintaining the original game intact so there will not be a riot over changes people don't like. However on the flip side, since they're remaking base PSO2 visuals anyhow, I wish they would only go 100% and synchronize personality models completely. Giving old players some free style items and unlocks will be sufficient to Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta bribe everyone to accept the new system.

Synchronizing 100% character models doesn't sound easy. The dilemma is that the old outfits and layer use are modeled to fit the older pso2 body. That is not likely to occur. I mean that I would be willing to shed a certain percentage of those cosmetics to help keep things intact across variations. As long as there's a steady feed of cool new things to replace it, I do not mind. I always rotate out my old appearances anyway. Provided that the character versions translate 1:1 it'll still feel like mine.

I'd envision a massive complication to that entails a lot of the makeup from the Japanese side of things that were exclusive to collaborations, promotional events, and events which no longer exist. The example I can think of is the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I can imagine the clothing and weapons could unquestionably be given a visual update together with everything else but that I don't exactly know how the licensing or how the lawful side of this cooperation works where I'd wish it had been as easy as Sega going through and updating the resources but I don't know about just how much of Capcom is involved in this procedure.

The same is applicable to collaborations like the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I do not understand just how much Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to have the ability to upgrade assets . When it was only just Phantasy Star-related things (such as character outfits, cameos from different games, or other Sega-related possessions ) I could envision that this likely would have been achieved, or at least would be carried out. But in the worldwide variant we don't have the presence of Cougar NX therefore I do not know if there are other complications seeing Sega's properties that might also contribute not to updating everything they could within reason.

I can envision that probably out there we will still see someone wearing those older collaboration items even if they aren't rigged up to the very same standards as new cosmetics in a similar manner and that there would have been outrage if it was made unusable or obsolete. Collabs who have experienced their makeup removed nevertheless have their resources exist on cheap PSO2 Meseta the game so those will likely still be accessible for jp players.
