STRESS AND THE IMMUNE RESPONSE
The part of the case assignment that I addressed in this step is defining stress as a biochemical interaction that affects an organism’s ability to respond to threats. While each person may be aware about the underlying symptoms of responding to stress, only a few understand the existing physiological mechanism resulting to stress. In the realm of human biology, stress can threaten a human face and take more benevolent forms similar to those of ancient ancestors that can equally be traumatic to our body. The part of the case assignment to be addressed is the relationship between biological processes of human being and stress. This essay represents a systematic discussion of stress, its definition underlying physiological level consequences, and responding to stress. Formulating the Hypothesis The part of the case assignment required to accomplish the task is to understand how stress exerts pressure to the body making it difficult to reach some goals. Based on inductive reasoning, the following testable prediction can be made at this stage: H1: Stress exerts body pressure to individuals inhibiting body metabolism. Ho: There is no relationship between stresscausing pressure to body metabolism. Missing Information in the Hypothesis The hypothesis contains the information that can be relied upon and accepted as absolute truth. This is because research conducted previously tends to agree with the assumptions. Intense pressure reaches chronic and harmful levels leading to deletions consequences that compromise a patient’s immune system. The compromise has to render the immune system function less causing the developmental impairment. The degree of stress response is largely governed by glucocorticoid which is the primary molecule involved in responding to stress. Although this information is acceptable as absolute truth, patients with post-traumatic stress disorder have been recorded to have reduced or normal function of HPA axis. This study can help in proper understanding the cortisol responsiveness to stressful cognition to patients with PTSD-related problems either in childhood or adulthood. Bio analysis reveals that the response of human stress involves a complex signaling path of somatic cells and neurons, while the neurochemistry of stress indicates that the underlying stress response has vastly increased in humans over the years. However, the recent development in technology has caused a change in chemical reaction of the human body causing the stress response to increase to an unknown level. The role played by corticotrophin and arginine shows that they have been highly affected by the environmental stressors from the hypothalamus neurons secreting CRH and AVP. Therefore, in order to obtain more accurate information, I would be required to test the pressure levels of different individual and assess how their body responds to stress under modern environmental conditions. Technology Available to Facilitate Stress Test Stress testing is defined as the process of establishing whether an individual can maintain the required level of effectiveness and normalcy when subjected to unfavorable conditions. According to “Pearson Learning Solutions: Lymphatic and Immune Systems” , there are different kinds of stress testing machines and systems that are developed with different specifications. Such machines include cardiac equipment, defibrillators, monitors, and stress tests, to name a few. In addition, chemically induced cardio lite stress tests have become a common device in many hospitals. Testing the Missing Information in a Scientific Method The procedure for assessing stress in a person is to measure how well blood flows into the heart muscles and the efficiency in which the heart moves when pumping the blood. Physical performance is done on a treadmill, and chemical-induced stress test is done. Patients who are unable to exercise can be induced through administering dobutamine, lexiscan or persanine . A radioactive compound, such as cardiolite, is injected to provide the technologist with the images of the heart. After 45 minutes, the images are scanned and analyzed to determine the stress level in the person.
