Five tips to help students improve their grades

In this article review example, psychologist Ana Herrero offers the keys for students at any level to improve their grades.

When students' grades for the first quarter of the course do not meet their expectations, they have two more evaluations to get through the course with good grades thanks to continuous assessment, an evaluation method that takes into account the student's progression throughout the year and can be used to motivate them.

"Some children do not start the academic year off on the right foot, achieving poor or even bad results about their ability," says Ana Herrero, psychologist and coordinator of the Guidance Department of the Brains International Schools group.

Opportunities to improve grades

The causes can be multiple, and each case must be analyzed individually to find the causes of poor performance. "As a general rule, we should look at the children's study habits, since, with a few small adjustments in their study routines, we can improve their results," explains Herrero, who offers five simple tricks for young people to get better grades.

Avoid punishment

The student should know that he has not fulfilled his academic obligations and some concerned about the results obtained. Most likely, he will not feel satisfied either. It will be useless to punish them if he does not understand why he must fulfill his responsibilities. Punishment alone neither educates nor teaches him to do things correctly. However, you can deprive him of some privileges that he will only enjoy when he shows an attitude of responsibility and commitment to his studies. We must focus on helping him, not punishing him, trusting him, and involving him in making decisions about improving his studies.

Find the right time to study

With proper planning, students can have time to develop the activities necessary for their training and have fun. The essential thing is to create a routine, looking for a fixed schedule to dedicate to homework and study. It is advisable to dedicate the first hours of the afternoon to this task.

Organize your time

To study productively is to know how to manage time. The right thing to do is to make a list of tasks to be done. A school agenda is a good method to know what to do in the afternoon when school is over. Each task must have a start and end time, interspersed with a few minutes of rest in which they can stretch their legs, drink water... avoiding, all times, distractions such as mobile devices.

Rest for 8 hours

Good academic results are marked by a good ability to concentrate, which is directly linked to rest. For students to adequately attend to teachers, they must sleep a minimum of 8 hours.

Review before going to sleep

If the student has an exam the next day, reviewing what he has studied before going to sleep will help him memorize the information. For this purpose, outlines are a good tool to retain what has been learned and to have the most important information at a glance.
