Jose Abreu unanimously voted AL Rookie of the Year AL Rookie

White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu has been unanimously selected as the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year by the Baseball Writers' A sociation of America.

The Cuban slugger, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, hit .317/.383/.581 with Carlos Ruiz Jersey 36 homers and 107 RBIs. His slugging percentage and OPS+ (169) led the AL.

Abreu received all 30 first-place votes. Finishing second was Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker, who got 12 second-pace votes Dan Vogelbach Jersey and seven third-place votes. Yankees reliever Dellin Betances was third with four second-place votes and six third-place votes.

"I don't have any words to describe this moment," Abreu said through a translator on the MLB Network telecast Monday. "I consider myself Austin Nola Jersey a good hitter, and I gue s I've proven it."

Abreu received all 30 first place votes for 150 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' A sociation of America.

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Matt Shoemaker was second with 40 points, followed by New York Yankees reliever Dellin Betances (27), Houston pitcher Collin McHugh (21) and Yankees pitcher Masahiro Felix Hernandez Jersey Tanaka (16), who was hurt for most of the season's second half.

Abreu hit .383 with three homers and nine RBIs for Cuba at last year's World Baseball Cla sic, then defected that summer and signed a $68 million, six-year contract with the White Sox in October.

He became the first qualifying rookie to lead the major leagues in slugging percentage since Oakland' Mitch Haniger Jersey s Mark McGwire in 1987, according to STATS.

Abreu is the sixth White Sox player to earn the honor following Luis Aparicio (1956), Gary Peters (1963), Tommie Agee (1966), Ron Kittle (1983) and Ozzie Guillen (1985).
